Microdermabrasion is a process which removes dead skin cells from the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin), cleans out blocked pores and enhances skin tone. The process increases sluggish skin cell turnover, producing fresh, glowing skin.

The microdermabrasion technique can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians who used alabaster or pumice to remove blemishes and rough spots and to make the skin smooth and well-toned.

HydraFacial MD model 01, Dr Charles Cope

Microdermabrasion can be used to improve or eliminate many skin conditions and imperfections, including active acne, scars (surgical or acne), hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, congested skin, and the extraction of blackheads and whiteheads.

Microdermabrasion has other benefits which include more effective penetration of active topical agents, such as vitamins A & C, moisturisers and sunblocks.

*Initially 4-10 treatments will rejuvenate the skin. Treatments are usually conducted every 2-3 weeks, although weekly sessions may be advised in some cases. A monthly maintenance and the application of an appropriate skin care program will sustain the desired results.

In the instance of severe acne and acne scars, further treatments may be required. Dr Cope would also recommend that in such cases microdermabrasion is combined with other medical therapies and skin care programs. *This combination will ensure better and more rapid results.

The HydraFacial MD® is an advanced step forwards from microdermabrasion, comprising a non-invasive, multistep treatment that combines the benefits of next-level hydradermabrasion, a chemical peel, automated painless extractions (no pinching!) and a special delivery of Antioxidants, Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides. *It does all of this in one quick treatment that delivers real results without downtime or irritation.

*Note results may vary from person to person
