Cosmetic surgery is real surgery, and it is very important to fully understand what the surgery involves and the expected recovery time following the surgery.

Although most cosmetic surgery has a very high patient satisfaction, complications can occur, and it is important to understand that all procedures have both benefits and potential risks.

At your initial consultation in one of our Sydney (Mosman or Wahroonga) clinics or at Gosford, which will take 30-45 minutes, your options for surgery are explained and you will be shown photographs of patients who have had similar surgery in Sydney.

You will also be given written information sheets on the surgery that you are considering. It is important that you carefully read the information sheets, and write down any questions so that they can be discussed at your next consultation.

Bringing someone with you to the consultation, such as your partner or a friend, is a good way to remember as much information as possible, and you can discuss it with them later. You can also ask to speak to other patients who have had similar surgery, or read reviews of patients who have already had surgery, such as those on Google or Realself – please visit these site for reviews as it is illegal in Australia to host reviews on your own website.

The FAQ page on this site contains a link to hundreds of questions Dr Cope has answered on Realself answering questions on many of the common procedures.

Following the initial surgery consultation, another consultation is normally made 10-14 days later to discuss any further questions you may have. If patients are unsure of their options then Dr Cope encourages patients to seek second opinions from another Specialist Plastic Surgeon.

NEW RULES 1 July 2023

Under guidelines released by AHPRA (the Medical Board governing Australia) at the beginning of April, after 1st July 2023 all patients having cosmetic procedures (surgical and non-surgical) in Australia need to have a pyschological assessment including for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) prior to the procedure.

This will take place prior or at your first consultation, where you will have a 15 minute interview with our practice nurse.

We appreciate that you may find these new guidelines intrusive, but they are out of our control, Australia wide and will be performed by every clinic in Australia performing these treatments.
